Africa campaign dubbed ‘Our Land Our Future’ stood out as one of the most outstanding PR and communications cases in the region over the last year.
USIU-Africa has won the premier African public relations and communications award – the African Excellence Awards for the second year in a row. USIU-Africa’s “Our Land Our Future” crisis communication campaign to manage the university’s reputation and educate stakeholders on land grabbing issues, was named the top Crisis Communication campaign in the entire continent. Last year, the university’s “Experience USIU-Africa” campaign won in the Science and Education category during the inaugural African Excellence Awards held in South Africa in April 2016.
“The sophistication of the role of communication and reputation management is evolving as rapidly as business and society are these days, and winning this award has shown that our team is on track ” said Director University Advancement , James Ogolla. “In most African universities PR and Communications is purely seen as a degree program for corporates, and not a function that has relevance in education institutions despite the fact they have a wide range of stakeholders to communicate to,” he concluded.
“The awards recognize organizations that have made extraordinary achievements in the industry and the activities undertaken to promote and expand their PR and Communication strategies,” African Excellence Awards Manager, Stefanie Höse said in her congratulatory message to USIU-Africa.” The rise of Communications in Africa is showcasing the continent in a new light, proving that Africa has what it takes to produce innovative global communications solutions,” she added.
The judging panel, which is made up of a selection of individuals highly regarded as experts in the field of communications and public relations and received 2,500 applications around the globe. The USIU-Africa campaign dubbed ‘Our Land Our Future’ stood out as one of the most outstanding PR and communications cases in the region over the last year.
This year’s award show was held on Thursday, 29 June 2017 in Johannesburg, South Africa, where USIU-Africa and winners in 25 other categories spanning the public relations and communications landscape, formally received their Awards.
Jane Muriithi-Thomas, USIU-Africa’s chief manager for communications and marketing was in Johannesburg to receive the award.
The awards are hosted by Communication Director – an internationally-focused magazine for corporate communications, public relations and public affairs – which has been celebrating the achievements of communication professionals for the past ten years in Europe. Since 2016, the magazine has hosted the continental award shows in Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Africa and North America, as well as Europe.
